Carbajal, Athletic Trainer, Phoenix College This videotape is a hands on ? how to with Olympic softball players and coaches along with live demonstrations on women?s basic softball fundamental skills such as hitting, fast pitch swing, gripping the bat properly, stride phase, the pivot, swing phase, balloon/ towel/two ball toss/drop toss and back toss drill. Due to a hazardous nature, it is strongly recommended that only a coach conduct this next drill which is the drop toss drill. Also, types of drills, different techniques running through 1st base, rounding doing lead toss, getting back to the base, stressing the proper sprint technique by helping the runners to be more efficient in getting them to a base much quicker and adapting to any situation they may run into. Running through 1st base, rounding bases, lead-offs, tag-ups, important points of sliding and cup drill. Next discussions about sports medicine-strength conditioning and rehabilitation covering 2 areas that occur to softball players are, shoulder and lower back injuries and recognizing the mechanisms of injury. They discuss and demonstrate specific exercises for these injuries. With shoulder strength and lower back flexibility exercises, by working with the athlete?s form making sure the athlete is in balance at all times, this will prevent injuries. Finally, they discuss and demonstrate muscular imbalance is a major cause of athletic injury and it?s important to work both sides of the body when performing various flexibility exercises along with proper breathing. Try to find specific exercises to mimic the motor skills of a specific sport when dealing with hitting, pitching or throwing because there is always rotation involved. The lower back plyometric-medicine ball exercise drills. In conclusion there are a few points to remember which are discussed and the basic anatomy rehabilitation exercises, following proper procedures with warm-ups, proper technique and by training both sides equally to maintain your balance, you can try to have an injury free season.
